Google Business Profile: 8 mistakes that cost you customers
Your Google Maps listing is free and is often the first thing a customer sees of you. Here are the most common mistakes we come across.
In short
- Main category, hours and photos make the difference.
- Replying to reviews matters as much as receiving them.
- Information must match what is on your site.
1. Unverified listing
Without verification you can't manage information, photos and reviews. It is the first step, always.
2. Wrong category
The main category tells Google which searches to show you for. Choose the most precise one possible and add relevant secondary categories.
3. Outdated hours
A customer who finds you closed when Google said open rarely comes back. Update holiday hours too.
4. Few photos, or old ones
Add real photos of your premises, products, work and people. They help customers recognize and trust you.
5. No replies to reviews
Thank people for the positive ones and reply calmly to the negative ones. Readers also judge how you react.
6. No website linked
The link to your site lets customers find out more and lets Google confirm your information.
7. Details that differ from your site
A different phone or address between your listing and your site creates confusion. Use the same version everywhere.
8. Empty services and description
List your services and write a clear description, using the words your customers use.
