Visibility on Google, Bing and AI
AI optimized websites, built for search.
An AI optimized website is one written and built so that a machine can read it, understand it and cite it. Here is what that means in practice, what goes into every site we build, and how the result is measured.
What an AI optimized website is
For twenty years being found meant one thing: appearing among Google’s ten blue links. Today a growing share of searches ends in a written answer, inside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Copilot, and that answer names two or three businesses, not ten.
An AI optimized website is built for that second case without giving up the first. The foundations are the same as good technical SEO, but the goal changes: being indexed is no longer enough, you have to be understandable. A machine should be able to answer, from your pages alone, questions such as "what does this business do", "where is it", "what does it cost" and "when is it open", without having to guess.
The industry calls this GEO, Generative Engine Optimization, or AEO, Answer Engine Optimization. They are new acronyms for concrete work: writing clearly, and marking up the facts so they can also be read by something that does not read like a person.
How AI assistants choose who to mention
An assistant has no ranking. Given a local question, it searches the web, reads the pages it finds, and writes an answer citing the sources it understood best. Three things matter more than the rest.
- It can read you. If the page only exists after a lot of JavaScript has run, or if robots.txt blocks AI crawlers, there is nothing to read.
- It understands you. Name, address, phone, opening hours, services and prices expressed as structured data do not have to be interpreted: they are stated.
- It trusts you. Information that agrees across your site, your Google listing and directories, kept current and free of contradictions, is what makes a source usable.
What we build into every site
This baseline is included in the monthly price of every site. It is not a separate service.
- Complete JSON-LD structured data: the business, the services, the FAQs, the articles, the pages.
- Fast, readable HTML: the content is in the page that is served, not assembled afterwards.
- Frequently asked questions written as answers, the format assistants take up most readily.
- An llms.txt file describing the business and mapping the pages for anything reading with a machine.
- Name, address and phone identical on the site, on Google Business Profile and in directories.
- A robots.txt that explicitly allows AI crawlers, instead of blocking them by accident.
- Green Core Web Vitals, because a slow page is read worse by everyone.
Google, Bing and AI assistants: what differs
They are three routes to the same customer, and they are worked on together.
Google is still where local search starts: the Google Business Profile, Maps and your service pages decide who gets called when somebody needs something nearby.
Bing matters more than its market share suggests, because several AI assistants build their answers from Bing’s web results. A site invisible on Bing is invisible twice over.
AI assistants, finally, do not send traffic the same way: often they give the answer and credit the source. Being there means being named, even when nobody clicks.
How we measure with VisibAI
The work can be measured, and measuring is the one part that should replace promising. We use VisibAI, the software we built: it asks the questions your customers would ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Mistral, and records how often your business is named, in which answers, and next to which competitors.
The result is a score from 0 to 100 and a list of questions you do not appear on. Across 1,344 audits collected between February and August 2026, in 38 countries and 16 languages, the average score is 39 out of 100 and 88 per cent of businesses stay below 50. The sample is self selected and skewed towards B2B, so read it for what it is: an order of magnitude, not a national statistic.
Measuring before and after is also the honest way to say what worked. No supplier controls AI answers, just as nobody controls Google rankings: you work on the conditions, and you check.
This site is built the same way
Everything above is applied to this page. The site is static and served as ready made HTML, every page carries its own structured data, the llms.txt file lists every page in all four languages, robots.txt allows AI crawlers, and the six free tools run in your browser without sending data anywhere.
It is the simplest way to show the method: you can open the source of this page and check.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will mention my business?
No, and be wary of anyone who promises it. No supplier controls what an AI assistant answers, just as nobody controls Google rankings. What we can do is build the conditions for it and measure whether it is happening.
How long before results show?
Crawlers have to come, read and read again: it usually takes four to twelve weeks for a change to show up in answers. The VisibAI measurement can be repeated over time to see how it moves.
Is it worth it for a small local business?
Especially for a small local business. Questions put to assistants are often local and specific, and the answers name few businesses: in a narrow niche the competition to be cited is far lower than on Google.
Do I have to rebuild my site from scratch?
Not always. If the existing site is fast and readable, we can work on structured data, content and technical files. If it is built on a page builder that produces heavy pages, rebuilding costs less than chasing it.
What is the difference between SEO and GEO?
SEO aims to get a page into the results; GEO aims to get it used as the source of a written answer. They share the technical foundations, but GEO asks for more clarity, stated facts and agreement between sources.
